We had prepared for over six months for a calm and safe water birth at BB Gårda – an
approach that reflected our values and created a deep sense of security, especially since Martin has a strong fear of hospitals. We felt safe there and truly looked forward to the experience.
But in week 36+3, sudden preeclampsia and low platelets were discovered. We were immediately sent to hospital, where an induction was started. It became a medicalised birth that we were not prepared for – with sleep deprivation, worry and significant emotional strain.
The sense of safety came from Cita, who stayed with us throughout – before, during and after the birth. We could not have managed without her. The staff at Östra Hospital were also wonderful. BB Gårda still feels like our “home away from home.” We are so grateful for the sense of community we have gained.
“When everything changed, it meant everything to have someone who knew us and stayed with us all the way.”
