In the Midwife Team, midwives with long and broad experience of births work. BB Gårda is run by midwife Cita Lundin, who has worked for more than 30 years with pregnant women and those giving birth.

BB Gårda in Gothenburg is Sweden's first Birth Center. We aim to have a friendly, evidence-based approach to pregnancy, birth, and well-body care in a midwifery-led setting, where we build trust through trauma informed care, and treat people like humans instead of patients.

What is a Birth Center?

Basically it is a place where you are provided personalized care by midwives who actively support your own physiology so you can stay healthy and go thru pregnancy and birth with confidence and safety knowing you get professional support to welcome your new family member.

Birth Centers (BC) are found in the vast majority of modern countries such as England, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, USA, Australia, etc. Giving birth at a midwifery led BC leads to less interventions and stress and research shows decreasing of many of the most common complications. (see more under "research") Giving birth at a BC increase your chances to a good birth experience that have positive effect on your mental health and effects all of the family for life. Studies also shown, giving birth at a BC can heal previous traumatic births by actively supporting your autonomy.

A Truly Unique Birth is our aim. A birth where you lead, and we follow. Birth at a BC is already traditionally different from what most of the population have come to expect from media images, and stories from family and friends. Care from Barnmorsketeamet is centered on supporting low-risk birthing populations - ultimately, you don't need a lot of interventions or interruptions when birth is happening normally!

But we also know birth is unpredictable, requires confidence and support, and can sometimes need the help of a skilled professional. We endeavor to help you have the birth of your dreams, where your intuition is valued, your body can move and be comforted, and you feel safe asking for what you want.

Our midwives will meet you at the birth center 24-hours a day. Our team will support you through active labor phases, birth, and the early bonding time with your newborn.

Care at a BC is based on relationship-based, trusting care where you know your midwifes. The environment is well known and cosy, calm and safe, dimmed lighting, bathtubs in every room. Midwifes holding your space.

At BB Gårda your own oxytocin can flow freely and this gives you optimal opportunities for good contractions and a healthy birth. Barnmorsketeamet is with you all the way.

  • We comply with the Swedish ´patientlagen´ by searching Informed consent of the mother in all decisions or interventions that affect her care.
  • The choices, opinions and values of the birthing woman, partner and family in relation to the care and care of their child must always be asked for, considered and respected.
  • The mother and her partner should be fully involved so that care is flexible and individualized to meet their and their baby's individual needs.
  • Mothers must have the opportunity to make informed choices about every aspect of their birth, which is supported by actively providing evidence-based information.
  • Barnmorsketeamet does not have a rigid interpretation of guidelines, we offer personalized care.

The birthing person sometimes declines offers of interventions. There may be various reasons, including previous unpleasant experiences.
