Pre-birth course

Newborn baby in parents arms

Our preparatory course

All families planning to give birth at BB Gårda are invited to our preparatory course. The course is an important part of your journey towards birth and is included in the care package.

Here you will meet other families who are expecting a baby at about the same time as you. You will get to know each other, share thoughts and experiences and have the opportunity to encourage each other before the birth. Many find that the community created during the course provides great support all the way to the birth – and even after.

Structure

The course consists of three sessions, approximately 3 hours each.
Course dates will be announced well in advance. Course sessions are usually held on weekday evenings at 16.00–19.00.

Session 1 – Physiological birth

In the first session, the focus is on what happens in the body during birth.

We will go through:

  • How physiological birth occurs
  • The body's hormones, especially oxytocin
  • Labor, the cryo-reflex and the different phases of birth
  • How you as a couple can become a safe and cooperative team through birth
  • Golden Hour and the birth of the placenta

We also talks about how security, calm and relationship affect the birth process.

Session 2 – Practical tools and pain relief

The second session is more practically oriented.

We continue working with:

  • Breathing and mental strategies
  • Different birth positions
  • Massage and rebozo technique

You will also have the opportunity to:

  • Try the birthing room
  • Try what it's like to give birth in water (without water)
  • Use a pilates ball, birthing stool, birth sling and other aids

The aim is for you to get as realistic a picture as possible of how the birth can go and to feel safe in the environment.

Session 3 – The time after the birth

The third session is about the first time as a new family.

The focus is on:

  • Breastfeeding or bottle feeding
  • Bonding between child and parents
  • Breastfeeding positions and practical tips
  • Baby wraps and closeness
  • A brief overview of colic

The aim is for you to feel prepared for the time after the birth as well.
