Breastfeeding & Colic Support

Newborn baby in parents arms

At BB Gårda, we offer support with breastfeeding and colic in a calm, welcoming and home-like environment. You can come to us whether you have recently given birth, are in the midst of early parenthood, or simply need support. Everyone is welcome, even if you did not give birth at BB Gårda. We meet you and your baby with experience, attentiveness and respect for your individual needs.

Breastfeeding Support

In the warm and welcoming environment at BB Gårda, you can feel relaxed and at home, and we make every effort to keep feeding moments as calm and unhurried as possible. You may try breastfeeding in a comfortable sofa or armchair, on a kitchen chair, or in one of our soft, spacious double beds. With us, you receive breastfeeding support with advice and guidance in the way and place that feels best for you. It should feel like “a home away from home.”

The truth is that learning to breastfeed takes time, for both mother and baby. Sometimes breastfeeding does not go as hoped, or difficulties arise such as pain, sore nipples, blocked milk ducts, or a feeling that it simply is not working. You are just as welcome then. With us, you can receive support, guidance and help in finding a way that works for you and your baby.

Bottle-feeding can also be something that takes time to practise and feel confident with, and we support you in that as well. We do this together. Being able to feed your baby in a calm and unhurried way is beneficial for both your baby and for you, whether you are breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or combining the two.

Together, you will have time to practise, ask questions and settle into what feels right for you.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, followed by continued breastfeeding alongside other foods. At the same time, we recognise that every family’s situation is unique, and feeding may look different over time. Our focus is always that you and your baby are doing well, regardless of how your situation looks.

Colic Treatment

How are things at home in the newborn bubble, is it joyful, or sometimes very demanding? If your baby cries a great deal, or if you suspect infant colic, it can be an exhausting period for the whole family. There is help available, and at BB Gårda we can support you through this time.

Colic often means that a baby cries more than feels normal, even though the baby is healthy and gaining weight. The former “three-hour rule” is no longer used, instead, we focus on the experience of the baby and the family.

Annika is a colic specialist and meets each family with time, sensitivity and respect. An important part of the treatment is being listened to and taken seriously. Together, we explore possible causes and what may help your baby. Often, breastfeeding or bottle-feeding may also need adjustment.

When appropriate, we also offer acupuncture for babies with colic. The treatment is very gentle and adapted for infants. The needles are extremely thin and are placed superficially in the skin for a very short time. Most babies hardly react at all, and if there is any discomfort, they are quickly comforted.

Treatment is planned individually and usually takes place two to three times per week over a period of time.
